My name is ________________ and I am a freshman/sophomore/junior/senior. I am very interested in starting a new, inclusive service league at our school where everyone is welcome to participate - the One_______ club. There are great groups at school but often they focus on a single issue or they are limited to only boys or girls. Many groups require a parent to volunteer or spend money on special events. This often acts an invisible barrier that prevents students from participating. Not everyone has a parent that can volunteer or the resources to fund special clothing or fees. The new club I'm proposing is part of a national movement to ensure that students have opportunities to volunteer and lead large service organizations regardless of their financial situation, their homelife or how they identify with regard to gender. Please let me know next steps to make the One_____ club an office __________ high school club. Thank you so much!
Dear _______,
I had such a great year with you in _____________ class. I'm writing to ask if you could serve as the faculty advisor of the new One_______ club I'm starting at our school. The One_________ club will be a modern, inclusive service league at our school where everyone is welcome to participate. Many thanks,
One___________ is a modern, inclusive service league serving the greater ___________ school community. Everyone is welcome regardless of gender identification, religion or access to financial resources. No fees, financial donations or parental volunteer commitments are required. Every student deserves the opportunity to contribute and lead.
Food Drive
Many homeless shelters and many churches/synagogues/mosques have food pantries where clients can "shop" for free. You and your group should ask permission from a local grocery store to set up a table out front and to ask for specific donations. Be sure to ask the organization involved for what they need - sometimes there's a need for pasta, canned soups and other non-perishable goods and other times for paper products like toilet paper and paper towels. Be sure to map out in advance how you are going to move everything you collect to the pantry. You might be surprised at how much people will donate when you catch them just walking into the grocery store.
Beach/Park Cleanup
Contact a local or state group (or even a municipal parks department) to ask about helping out with a beach or park cleanup. A lot of these groups can provide you with free plastic gloves and bags to collect trash. Otherwise, you can always ask for a donation of plastic gloves from a local drugstore or doctor's office.
